Thick Scars

Skin is a seamless organ that acts like a protective barrier. However, injuries such as burns, surgery, or trauma can lead to thick scars, which can be difficult to conceal. While scars never completely disappear, treatments are available to reduce their appearance.

How Does Scarring Happen?

Scarring is a natural healing process that depends on various factors, including the depth and size of the wound, skin type, and genetics.

Types of Thick Scars

  • Keloid Scars: Overgrown scar tissue that extends beyond the original injury. Can be treated with steroid injections, surgery, or silicone sheets.
  • Contracture Scars: Common after burns, these scars tighten the skin and can limit movement.
  • Hypertrophic Scars: Raised, red scars similar to keloids but do not grow beyond the injury site. Treatable with steroid injections and silicone sheets.
  • Acne Scars: Can range from deep pits to wavelike formations. Treatments depend on the type and severity of scarring.
